Hi everyone! I wanted to share this story with you all as I have been so inspired by it myself. As many of you well know Cystic Fibrosis can really hold you back in your pursuit of your dreams and goals. Here at the TLWC I try to put it out there that CF, or any other health problem, doesn’t have to stop you for going for and achieving your dreams. As I have mentioned many times before, it means you just have to be a bit more CREATIVE!! Well, Rick Faulks is certainly achieving his dreams and he is doing it in a big way…..

Rick is a 34 year old man with Cystic Fibrosis. Despite having CF, Rick has achieved many goals that even healthy people may struggle with. He has travelled overseas, got married and had beautiful twins with his lovely wife, Megan, as well as started his own photography business. Surely with all that under his belt he could have sat back and relaxed?! NO WAY!
When Rick was in high school he did a assignment on Cystic Fibrosis, in the process of completing his assignment he came up with the idea of riding his bike in a fundraising event to raise awareness for Cystic Fibrosis. In 2007, Rick decided to make that dream a reality and undertook the massive task of planning and organising his dream. The outcome was amazing. Rick himself would undertake a 34 day journey, riding 1900 km’s on his trusty bike from Cairns to Ipswich in Queensland, along the way promoting Cystic Fibrosis and raising funds to support people with Cystic Fibrosis in every community that he came across. On July 27, 2009, Rick started this journey and is in the process of riding through Queensland this very minute. I am in total awe of this wonderful young man and his effort to not only challenge himself and smash his supposed limitations but to help others in the process. What a wonderful achievement!
Rick has a website and blog that is updated regularly throughout his journey, you can find his site here. I urge you all to check it out and support him in anyway that you can. He has a route and itinerary on his home page, go wave him in if he stops in your area. He really is an inspiration and a great guy too.
I hope Rick shows you that your dreams and goals can be achieved when you think outside the square and dare to challenge yourself. I know I will be looking at my goals in a different light after seeing Rick’s effort.
